Solution:

The given set of data is 33, 31, 38, 31, 39.  

The formula for estimate mean = `(a1+a2+a3+. . . . . .+a n)/n`

Step 1: Mean = `(33+31+38+31+39)/5`

Step 2: Mean = `172/5`

Step 3: Mean = 34.4

Step 4: 31, 31, 33, 38, 39. (Ascending order)

Step 5: Median = 33

Step 6: Mode = 31 (Repeated data)

The mean value for the set of data 33, 31, 38, 31, 39 is 34.4. The median for the given set of data is 33 and mode is 31.

 Example 2 for beginning statistics tutorial:   

What is the mean, mode and also the median for the set of data 133, 125, 145, 145, 110?

Solution:

The given set of data is 133, 125, 145, 145, 110.  

The formula for estimate mean = `(a1+a2+a3+. . . . . .+a n)/n`

Step 1: Mean = `(133+125+145+145+110)/5`

Step 2: Mean = `658/5`

Step 3: Mean = 131.6

Step 4: 110, 125, 133, 145, 145. (Ascending order)

Step 5: Median = 133

Step 6: Mode = 145(Repeated data)

Themean value for the set of data 133, 125, 145, 145, 110 is 131.6. The median for the given set of data is 133 and the mode is 145.

Example 3 for beginning statistics tutorial:   

Determine the mean, mode and also the median for the set of data 198, 194, 196, 195, 194,193, 192.

Solution:  

The given set of data is 198, 194, 196, 195, 194,193, 192.   

The formula for estimate mean = `(a1+a2+a3+. . . . . .+a n)/n`

Step 1: Mean = `(198+194+196+195+194+193+192)/7`

Step 2: Mean = `1168/7`

Step 3: Mean = 166.857

Step 4: 192, 193, 194, 194, 195, 196, 198. (Data in ascending order)

Step 5: Median = 194

Step 6: Mode = 194 (Repeated data)

The mean for the set of data 198, 194, 196, 195, 194,193, 192 is 166.857. The median for the given set of data is 194 and the mode is 194.
